Properties of Mixture

Properties of mixtures:

  • A mixture may be homogeneous or heterogeneous.
  • The constituents of a mixture can be separated by physical methods such as filtration, evaporation, sublimation and magnetic separation: Take a mixture of iron filings and sulphur. When a magnet is put in the mixture, the iron particles get attracted to the magnet, stick to it and can thus be separated from the mixture. Sulphur is not attracted to the magnet.
  • The constituents of mixture can be in any ratio.
  • The constituents retain their individual properties.
